Description

The PCTVB series bypass distribution amplifiers will boost your digital TV and HDTV signals, increasing their overall signal strength. The PCTVB series bypass distribution amplifiers can be used in HDTV, CATV, off-air, analog and digital RF distribution applications where high performance and reliability are required, but are specifically engineered for use in cable telecommunications networks providing cable telephone services. The PCTVB series bypass amplifier will have a port that is specifically marked as the “bypass port”, frequently by saying “To eMTA” on the label. This port is specifically designed for the cable modem or the MTA (Multimedia Terminal Adapter – the device cable operators use to provide cable telephony service).

There are two basic types of bypass amplifiers: active bypass and passive bypass. The PCTVB series bypass amplifiers are considered active bypass amplifiers. There are two relays that will route the signal around the amplifier if power is lost. When the unit is powered, the TV signals go directly into the amplifier in the normal fashion, and the MTA or cable modem is connected to the designated bypass port. If power is lost, the relays transfer the signals over to the bypass path, which goes around the amplifier and directly to the designated bypass port. This ensures that emergency telephone calls can be made even when power is lost.

The PCTVB series bypass distribution amplifiers are professional grade and meet stringent US and international standards, including those developed by the Society of Cable Telecommunications Engineers (SCTE), who creates international standards for many TV signal distribution products. The PCTVB4UN is a high quality four output bypass distribution amplifier with unity gain. A unity gain distribution amplifier has a special design that includes enough of a signal boost (gain) to overcome the loss of the splitters built into the distribution amplifier. Since the signal gain equals the signal loss, it has “unity gain”, meaning that the output signal level after the splitter built into the distribution amplifier will be the same as the signal level going into the amplifier. The PCTVB4UN has unity gain in both the forward and the return path frequency ranges. The return path frequency range is used in cable telecommunications networks to allow cable modems and set top boxes to communicate back through the cable network. PCT distribution amplifiers have precision machined F ports (conforms to SCTE standards) that are gold plated with beryllium copper construction to provide optimal distribution and amplification of your RF signals.
